UFC Scholarship Recipient Madeline Bright Wins Top UCD Award
Madeline Bright, 2019 and 2020 recipient of our Marion Freeborn Continuing Student Scholarship, was recently named the 2021 University Medalist, given to the top graduating senior at UC Davis.
The medal is awarded for excellence in undergraduate studies, outstanding community service, and the promise of future scholarship and contributions to society. The winner receives a plaque and $2,000.
In an email to UFC’s Janet Collins, Madeline said, “Receiving the Marion Freeborn Scholarship definitely gave me a boost of confidence that I was on the right track and others believed in me and my future.”
“I'm currently applying to MD/PhD programs, so I'll keep you updated on how that goes. Thank you so much for your continued support! Please extend my sincere thank-you to the entire UFC community.”
Details on Madeline’s past work and future plans are in an article about the award in the Davis Enterprise.
The bio that appeared on our website last year said, “Madeline Bright is majoring in Biological Sciences. She is planning to pursue a M.D./Ph.D. in Cancer Biology, as well as an M.D., to practice as a Pediatric Oncologist. Her research work in the David Lab at UC Davis has helped solidify her career inspirations. As a future researcher, she wants to remain connected to her core research: improving human lives. She continued her research by studying in Dublin, Ireland, for a summer.”
