This event brings book lovers together to celebrate the joy of reading and share their favorite books of the year. It provides a unique opportunity for participants to discover new titles, discuss literary trends and connect with others. In addition to the book discussions, there will be plenty of time to socialize while munching on a variety of sweet and savory treats.
At the event, we will compile a master list of books shared by attendees and email it to you afterwards. This will make it easy to track the books that piqued your interest. There will also be a table dedicated to a book exchange, where you can bring books you're willing to pass on to a new home.

In April of 1975, Davis author Claudia Krich and a small group of humanitarian aid volunteers chose to stay behind in Vietnam, when nearly all Americans and thousands of terrified Vietnamese fled. Without weapons, protective barriers, or any guarantee of safety, Claudia witnessed firsthand what happened. She will share her experiences and photos.
Claudia Krich was co-director of the American Friends Service Committee medical humanitarian program in Vietnam from early 1973 until July 1975. Those Who Stayed is her personal firsthand account of the collapse of the South Vietnamese government, the end of the war, and life under the newly established Provisional Revolutionary Government.
Among the few Americans who stayed behind, Krich was the only one who kept a journal. In Those Who Stayed, she shares vivid impressions of those intense, historic days, capturing the uncertainty, fear, and pivotal moments as North Vietnamese soldiers arrived. Weaving personal experiences with major historic events, her book offers an extraordinary perspective on a defining moment in history.

Join us for a fun and flavorful cooking demonstration featuring fideuĂ , a Mediterranean favorite often called paella's pasta cousin. This hearty dish uses short, thin pasta that's lightly toasted, then cooked in a savory broth with olive oil, garlic, and seafood. Abbie will show how it all comes together, share a few simple tips for getting great flavor, and give you a closer look at a dish that's perfect for sharing with family and friends. It will be served with a salad and dessert.
Our presenter, Abbie Morrison, has enjoyed cooking for family and friends for as long as she can remember. She first discovered this Catalan version of paella while visiting Barcelona in 2009, and it quickly became a favorite. Since then, fideuĂ has been a Christmas Eve tradition in her family and a dish she loves preparing for gatherings with friends.
