List of Scholarships
Scholarships are presented annually at the Scholarship Reception and Fall Welcome to junior, senior, and re-entry students demonstrating high scholastic achievement, leadership, community service, high goals, and volunteerism. Each year, the recipients' names are engraved on plaques and permanently displayed on campus, at the Memorial Union.
26 Years of UFC Scholarship Endowment
In 1993, the UFC Board established a fund to support the UFC scholarship program with a portion of dues, gifts, and money remaining from programs. Concern about the uncertainty and variability of this money prompted the board to pursue an endowment to strengthen the scholarship fund. Two silent auctions raised the original seed money of $10,000 needed to establish the UFC Scholarship Endowment in 1995.
Marion Freeborn Undergraduate Scholarships
Undergraduate scholarships have been given almost every year since 1937. In 1959, these awards to outstanding students were named Marion Freeborn Scholarships in honor of the wife of the first Chancellor and past President of UFC. Now we have three categories under that umbrella:
Carol Lee Coss Memorial ScholarshipThis endowment was established in 2008 by the Coss family and friends of Carol Lee, a past president of UFC. It is awarded annually to an outstanding undergraduate student who has displayed creativity and community involvement or participation in extracurricular activities. Preference is given to arts majors—e.g., Design, Landscape Architecture, Art Studio, and Dramatic Arts.
Blanche L. Price Scholarship
This endowment was established in 1997 by past President Elizabeth Sagehorn. As executor of her Aunt Blanche’s estate, Elizabeth was able to make charitable contributions in her aunt’s name. This scholarship is awarded to an outstanding undergraduate who has overcome a disadvantage (including financial).
If you would like to remember someone with a special gift, please contact the President email@example.com.
Former Scholarship Recipient Ashley Coates
UC Davis College of Engineering, ‘14
I was very grateful to receive my University Farm Circle scholarship during my time at Davis. The people I met at University Farm Circle actually made several other opportunities possible for me as well, like my participation as a UC Davis Ambassador. Sharing my story is a way to say,
THANK YOU! Ashley is working on her PhD at Stanford in Aeronautics and Astronautics and is working full time at NASA Ames Research Center. For more about her, download this brochure.
