  Sweet or savory?!  Why choose just one? Join us in the Teaching Kitchen to demystify soufflés as we make a classic cheese soufflé, a savory option with vegetable puree, a chocolate soufflé and a delicate fruit soufflé that you can adapt to any season.

  Soufflés are far more simple than their reputation would lead you to believe.  We will learn how to properly whip eggs and fold them in a tender and airy base and bake it until just perfectly set. Wonderful for a light but decadent brunch, dinner or dessert.  Once you’ve got the basics, you can customize to your heart’s content.

  Cost: $25.00

  Come and explore the outstanding collection of artworks at the Crocker Art Museum on a docent-led tour. Enjoy a no-host lunch at the café at the Crocker. 

  Upon arrival, members will collectively hear an educational "Crocker Talker" presentation on the history of the Crocker by Barbara Marcotte., Community Outreach Docent. After this orientation, six docents with ten people per group, a total of 60 people, will visit the galleries—all touring at the same time in different areas of the museum. The tours are one hour. 

  Members are invited to stay after the tour and lunch to browse the galleries not seen and to walk back to areas of interest prompted by the tour for another look. The Museum Store will be open with a unique selection of jewelry, vases, scarves, and sculptures made by some of the region's finest artists, and books, games, and other fabulous finds for all ages.

  The Crocker Art Museum is the oldest museum in California. Its centerpiece is the gallery building, completed in 1872, with its original Victorian Italianate architecture. To the East of the gallery building is the ornate historic mansion of California Supreme Court Judge Edwin B. and Margaret E. Crocker, and to the West is the Teel Family Pavilion, a 125,000 square-foot modernist addition to the museum completed in 2010. 

  The museum holds an extensive collection of international ceramics, European art— 6th and 17th century Dutch, Flemish, and Italian-Baroque paintings, and California art from the Gold Rush to the present. Other significant collection areas include Native American, Asian, African and Oceanic art and 1,500 master drawings, one of the finest early collections in the United States.

  Two new exhibitions will be opening in February at the time of our visit: Dr. Barry Ramer's Collection of Street Photography called "The Roaming Eye," and de la Torre Brothers mixed media glass sculptures exploring Latina culture on both sides of the U.S.-Mexican border. These are included in our tour.

  To carpool meet at the South Davis Park and Ride (just east of Ikeda's Market) at 10:00 am.

  Cost: $12 for all attendees, whether members of the Crocker or not.

  This event brings book lovers together to celebrate the joy of reading and share their favorite books of 2024.  It provides a unique opportunity for participants to discover new titles, discuss literary trends and connect with others.  In addition to the book discussions, there will be plenty of time to socialize while munching on a variety of sweet and savory treats.

  
  At the event, we will compile a master list of books shared by attendees and email it to you afterwards.  This will make it easy to track the books that piqued your interest.  There will also be a table dedicated to a book exchange, where you can bring books that you’re willing to pass on to a new home.

  Get ready to have some fun!  (And make some cash money.)  And support Farm Circle scholarships.  Doors open at noon, Bingo begins at 1:00 pm.

  Mark your calendars for Davis' only legal Bingo game, run by the Davis Odd Fellows.  All proceeds will be given to UFC.  Fifteen games will be played that afternoon, with cash prizes for the winners of every game, up to $250 for the winner of the final blackout Bingo game.  We hope that UFC members come out to play.  The more players we have, the more proceeds we receive for UFC.  Only adults (18 and older) may be present for Bingo because it is legal gambling.

  Bingo at the Davis Odd Fellows Lodge is low-impact (not cutthroat) Bingo.  It's easy and fun.  Even novice players will enjoy it.  Bring some friends and celebrate a birthday!

  In addition to Bingo, there is a full snack bar with food, drinks, candy, and wine and beer.  Free door prizes are handed out all afternoon.

  Cost:  Pay at the door.  $20 for a full Bingo double packet or $12 for economy packet

  We have two new exciting speakers this year! 
  

  Founding Director of the UC Davis Women's Cardiovascular Medicine Program, Professor Amparo Villablanca will talk to us about that all important organ – our hearts. As heart disease is the #1 killer of women, this presentation is extremely important. Professor Amparo Villablanca will present “Preventing Broken Hearts: Understanding and Treating Heart Disease in Women”.  

  Do we think first or do we talk first? What about a baby: does the baby think about food or does it just cry?  The latest recipient of the College of Letters and Science Teaching Award, Professor Masoud Jasbi, addresses this fascinating subject. Jasbi’s area of focus is language arts ranging from linguistics and linguistic analysis to language learning in humans and machines. This lecture is titled “Language vs. Thought, Babies vs. Machines”. 

  A lovely box lunch from Zia's Deli (sandwich, fruit salad and cookie) will be provided for each attendee and guests are welcome.

  Did you know that the Japanese Tea Garden has just unveiled two stunning new areas?  Come discover the beautiful new Pagoda Plaza and recently constructed paths among the giant redwoods.
  

  Our visit includes a one-hour San Francisco City Guide private tour of the oldest Japanese garden in North America, one that inspires tranquility, peace and harmony.  The cherry blossoms (Mother Nature permitting) should be blooming.  

  After the tour, we’ll have time for lunch on our own and optional visits to the DeYoung Museum or the Conservatory of Flowers or the San Francisco Botanical Garden.
